Beginning September 18th we will be highlighting a student of the week in our classroom. This student will be called the Top Dog of the Week. This will occur on a weekly basis until we have highlighted all of the students in the room. Each student will receive a small poster the Thursday before he or she is student of the week (I attached it below for you to see). This poster needs to be completed and brought to school the following Monday and will be presented to the class.
This program serves several purposes. First, it is an opportunity for each individual to enjoy these special moments of recognition. It is intended to foster a sense of belonging and appreciation for every child. Secondly, the program promotes awareness for the unique strengths and skills that make each child special. Finally, it provides students the opportunity to practice public speaking, to ask thoughtful questions, and make respectful comments.
The student of the week will have many special privileges including: choosing his/her job for the week, having one night of no written homework for the week, being the subject of our weekly writing prompts, and helping the teacher throughout the week.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Griffith
