Summer Tips
Keep your mind fresh, so that you don’t feel behind in the fall! Here are a few tips and activities you can do to help you over the summer:
· Read DAILY for 30 minutes or more.
· Keep sharp on your multiplication and division facts. You need to memorize these facts up to your 12s times tables to feel comfortable and confident in Math next year. Try saying them aloud on car trips, before bed, during TV commercials, or whenever you have free time!
· Practice measurement in the kitchen and working with money by making purchases in stores.
· Write in a journal daily. Writing for 15 minutes a day will keep your writing fluent. You can write about your day, write a summary of something you've read, tell a story, or pick a prompt to write to. Here is a website with a long list of prompts:www.canteach.ca/elementary/prompts.html
· Play board games that require skill work or strategies. Some great games, which are fun and stimulating, are Boogle, Rummycub, Banana Grams, Chess, Memory, Clue, Trivial Pursuit, and many more. Games are a great way to practice problem solving while still having fun!
· Keep busy this summer! If you are busy and keep your mind active, then you are more likely to stay sharp. I have included some links to websites that offer practice pages and activities for school students. Try to do something academic a few times a week. Keep practicing and you will be ready for next year!
Have a FABULOUS summer! I can’t wait to see all of your smiling faces next year!
